Vote for the People’s Choice in the My Northern Project competition
Something to watch for in the coming weeks: the unveiling of videos filmed by participants in the My Northern Project science popularization contest. All of the videos received will be published on our social network platforms where the general public will be asked to identify their favorite video. It is still possible for students to submit a video. The deadline is May 22nd. Several prizes are up for grabs!

My Northern Project: new deadline for submissions
The deadline for submitting a video has been extended to May 22, 2020.
For the past four years, My Northern Project has been unveiling a new generation of scientists who are passionate about the North and determined to perfect their skills in popularizing science. The 2020 edition of the competition takes a digital turn as students are challenged to produce a five-minute video clip in which they must popularize their research project.

Virtual Conference: Impacts of COVID-19 in the Arctic
A conference organized by the US Naval War College, Wilson Center's Polar Institute, and the US Arctic Research Commission.
The two-day conference (May 19-20, 2020) will include a series of panels focusing on the health of Arctic communities, economic activities, US Coast Guard operations, scientific research, international impacts, etc. The conference will be held in English.
Speakers will include: representatives of Arctic communities, federal and state agencies, universities, international entities and the private sector.

Le Nord au coeur
Until May 31, Productions du Rapide-Blanc is offering free viewing of the film Le Nord au coeur, a portrait of the founder of the Centre for northern studies, Louis-Edmond Hamelin.
“In this documentary, filmmaker Serge Giguère tells the story of a larger-than-life character. Louis-Edmond Hamelin, the Quebec pioneer of northern geography and a great ally of indigenous people, opens doors and challenges preconceived ideas by taking an interest in our nordicity, the phenomenon of strip farms in rural Canada and the historical importance of the First Nations."

At the forefront of research
Special issue on the hydrogeology of the Umiujaq region in Hydrogeology Journal
Several researchers affiliated with INQ recently published a special mini issue (Topical Collection) in Hydrogeology Journal.
In this issue, the authors present a detailed water balance of the watershed, characterize groundwater and surface-water hydrogeochemistry, describe the application of a tracer method to determine groundwater fluxes, develop a two-dimensional numerical model identifying impacts of groundwater flow on permafrost dynamics, and present a parameter sensitivity analysis.
The articles in this special issue are available free of charge for a limited time.
