My Northern Project 2021

1. Eligibility

To be admissible, you must :

 

• Be registered as a doctoral or Master's* student.

 

• Work on a research project with a northern or Arctic theme.

 

*To participate in the compettion, Master's students must have completed the analysis of the field data associated with their project .

 

2. Conceptualise, film and edit your video

A few guidelines for producing your video :

• The video must be in French


• The video must be 5 minutes in length


• You must be the principal presenter of the video


• Make sure to comply with the public health regulations in your region


• Keep in mind that the content should be accessible to the general public.

 

Suggested technical specifications (however, not mandatory)

• Image : resolution of 1920 x 1080
• Suggested format : H264 (MP4)
• Sound : Make sure it's audible

 

3. Application

Your application must include the following :

• Your video


• Your full name


• Email address


• Home university


• Program of study (don't forget to indicate whether you are a Master's or doctoral student)


• Title of your research project


• Abstract describing your research project (+/- 300 words)


• Title of your video popularizing your research project (<100 characters)


• A thumbnail (resolution of 1 280 x 720, in JPG or PNG format) - this thumbnail will be used to introduce your video on social media and YouTube.


• A catchy text (150 word, max.) to introduce your video when it is published on our Facebook and LinkedIn pages (no clickbait, be relevant!)

International final and participation at the Arctic Circle Assembly

The competition

Since 2016, the international final of the My Northern Project science popularisation contest has been held within the framework of the Arctic Circle Assembly, one of the most important international meetings for dialogue and cooperation on the future of the Arctic. During the final of the competition, Quebec students must take the stage and captivate the audience by presenting their northern research project in layman's terms and in English. To do so, the finalists have an maximum of five minutes and 10 slides without animation to support their presentation. Five students, selected from other Arctic countries will join the competition. Members of the on-site audience will be asked to vote for their favourite presentation and thus determine the international laureate of My Northern Project.

The Québec delegation at Arctic Circle Assembly

In order to consolidate the province's international network of northern and Arctic partners and maintain Quebec's position as a key player in the field, Quebec sends a delegation to the Arctic Circle Assembly every year. The Quebec finalists selected for the international final of the My Northern Project competition are integrated into this delegation and take part in its activities. For these students, it is an exceptional opportunity to understand the role of such a delegation while discovering the behind-the-scenes activities at a major international gathering from which a multitude of scientific collaborations arise.

Note that the students' accommodation and travel expenses are covered by the Institut nordique du Québec and its partners.

*International final  – Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic - If international travel is not recommended by public health agencies or post-secondary institutions in Québec in the Autumn of 2021, the international final will be cancelled and INQ will award each of the finalists $1000.
