The main reason for abandoning the course was the insufficient of time available to participants. The strike of Université Laval support staff also had a negative impact on participants' motivation to continue the course.
In total, 465 participants in the MOOC passed the course. This corresponds to a success rate of 14.17%. This rate rises to 21.5% if we omit registrants who never accessed the MOOC website. This success rate is consistent with overall trends in the success rate of MOOCs.

UiT, Arctic Frontiers and Fram Centre (16-24 January 2018)
A delegation from Sentinel North and the INQ visited Norway in January. The objectives of this mission were to: develop collaborations with the University of Tromsø, visit the Fram Centre and attend the Arctic Frontiers Annual Conference.
Members of the Société du Plan Nord, including President and Chief Executive Officer Robert Sauvé, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources and Minister responsible for the Plan Nord, Pierre Moreau, joined the researchers on their visit to Fram Centre, a source of inspiration for the INQ members, both with respect to the organization of the working space and for the scientific activities that are conducted there.

Second Nothern research Day - McGill North and INQ (24 January 2018)
The second science day was held at the McGill Faculty Club. It was a joint event sponsored by McGill North and the INQ.
During the event, McGill North presented three graphs showing the different connections between McGill researchers who work in the North in their projects.
The exercise is interesting and shows the interdisciplinarity of research projects related to the northern environment. Note that the second graph divides McGill researchers across the INQ's five axes of research.

5 à 7 Nordicité (25 January 2018)
The first edition of 5 à 7 Nordicité, organized by the CEN, brought together students and professors from Université Laval and INRS. In total, nearly 100 people were present to discuss Arctic research.
Several students accepted the challenge to present their northern research project. We heard about an oceanographic mission on the CCGS Amundsen, a dive with sea urchins, a caribou ride, and an expedition to face the permafrost. So many different and exciting projects presented to the public!
Representatives from CEN, Takuvik, Québec-Océan and Sentinel North also took the floor for a few minutes to introduce their research groups.
Overall, the first edition of 5 à 7 Nordicité at Université Laval was successful and appreciated by all.

INQ at Arctic Change (11-15 December 2017)
Once again this year, the INQ was a partner in the Arctic Change conference organized by ArcticNet at the Québec City Convention Centre, an event that attracted more than 1,400 participants.
For the first time, several centres and research initiatives were grouped under the banner of the INQ - Sentinel North, Takuvik, Québec Océan, CEN, Nasivvik and the three INQ's research chairs. This event, held every four years, offers a beautiful showcase for research being conducted by the Nothern and Arctic international scientific communities. We are eager to repeat this experience and hope for more partners under our banner in coming years. |
